Charlie Moore (Jonathan Ke Quan, THE GOONIES) is a Vietnamese teenager being raised in the lap of Southern California luxury together with his American brother, Tony. What they don’t know is that their father, ex-GI Michael (Jerry Trimble), is the ring leader in an armed bank robbery.
All hell breaks loose when the bank manager, a reluctant participant in the robbery, is murdered — a bloody event witnessed by his daughter, Annie. Now the focus of the gang is turned toward this lone eye-witness, and Charlie and Tony find themselves pitted against their own father and his gang in an effort to protect the young girl.
The action culminates in an explosive final battle that gives new meaning to the word “KICKBOXING”! Directed by Lou Kennedy.

Jalal Merhi (TIGER CLAWS, FEARLESS TIGER) was a successful Toronto jeweler and amateur martial artist who sold his business in the late 80s… and used the money to finance a string of movies he starred in and produced. TIGER CLAWS 2 was one of those movies, with Cynthia Rothrock (LADY DRAGON, MAGIC CRYSTAL) and Bolo Yeung (BLOODSPORT, TC 2000) reprising their roles. This time around, Merhi and Rothrock are called upon to take down the evil gangster Dai Lo Fu, who is attempting to smuggle weapons back in time through a portal underneath San Francisco. Directed by J. Stephen Maunder (TC 2000, TIGER CLAWS).

From the back of the VHS box:

New York detectives Richards (Jalal Merhi) and Masterson (Cynthia Rothrock) reunite to pursue escaped serial killer Chong (Bolo Yeung) into the ancient caverns beneath San Francisco’s Chinatown on the eve of the Chinese New Year.

In a deadly race against time, Richards and Masterson find themselves captured by Chong and his brother, the nefarious underground Chinatown leader Dai Lo Fu (Han Soo Ong), as they prepare for a ritual that will bring forth deadly consequences.

Escaping through secret halls built by the ancients, Richards and Masterson confront their enemies in a battle filled with spectacular gunfights and breath-taking martial arts.

    B-MOVIE BINGO: TC 2000

    TC 2000 (1993)
Showing Tuesday 2/3/2015 at The Hollywood Theatre

The first (and main) thing you need to know about this movie is that it stars Billy Blanks, the creator of Tae Bo. The second thing you need to know is that TC 2000 takes place in a pollution-tainted future (2020 to be exact). We learn from Blanks’ wooden narration that the rich have moved below ground to escape the polluted surface of the earth, leaving the poor and helpless above ground. In his words, “Killers and criminals formed ruthless gangs. When they weren’t fighting each other they were trying to break into the underworld to steal our food and water. That’s where I come in.”

Blanks plays Jason Storm, a “Tracker/Communicator” who, along with his rookie partner Zoey Kinsella (Bobbie Phillips, “Baywatch”), keeps the gangs at bay and protects the rich of the underworld. When Zoey is killed by Niki Picasso, leader of the gang “The Picassos”, the bosses of the underworld, a corrupt organization called The Controller, turn her into a ruthless killer cyborg called TC 2000 X. She’s been re-animated, and programmed to hunt down and kill people above ground. This pisses off Storm, who wants access to her memory chip, and he leaves the underworld and becomes a hunted man.

Above ground he befriends Master Samui, played by Bolo Yeung (BLOODSPORT). Master Samui has the rare ability to transfer the energy of his punches through people to other people nearby, which is strange to see. This is an agreeable attribute for him to have in the eyes of Storm. Together they team up to fight Zoey and prevent the destruction of the world. Directed by T.J. Scott (“Xena: Warrior Princess”).
