    B-MOVIE BINGO: THE RUNNING MAN

    THE RUNNING MAN (1987)
Showing Tuesday 5/1/2018 at The Hollywood Theatre

Arnold Schwarzenegger is running for his life in the high-tech futuristic action-adventure THE RUNNING MAN. Co-starring Maria Conchita Alsonso (MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON), Yaphet Kotto (ALIEN), Dweezil Zappa, Mick Fleetwood, Jim Brown, Jesse “The Body” Ventura and, in a critically acclaimed performance, “Family Feud” host Richard Dawson.

The year is 2019. Television is now ruling people’s lives. In the 21st Century, the most popular “audience participation” game show is “The Running Man” — where convicts can win pardons by defeating murderous henchmen known as “stalkers”. The stalkers haven’t had much of a challenge lately… until Ben Richards (Schwarzenegger) came along. Wrong convicted of slaughtering 1500 innocent people, Richards is the next contestant to fight for his life… and his freedom.

When “Running Man” host Damon Killian (Dawson) says “Come on down!”, be prepared to pay with your life! But Ben Richards isn’t going down without a fight.

Directed by Paul Michael Glaser (STARSKY & HUTCH, KAZAAM)

    B-MOVIE BINGO: BREAKAWAY

    BREAKAWAY (1996)
Showing Tuesday 3/6/2018 at The Hollywood Theatre

Tonya Harding was in a movie! She tried her hand at a variety of things after her figure skating heyday, one of them being acting. From the back of the VHS box:

Myra Styles (Teri Thompson, MARRIED PEOPLE SINGLE SEX, IRONMAN) made the mistake of stealing money from the mob. Now on the run, Myra is betrayed by her boyfriend and loses the money to an innocent bystander, Gina Taylor (Tonya Harding, Olympic Figure Skater). They are pursued by a pack of bloodthirsty mobsters and a relentless hitman, Grey (Joe Estevez, BODY COUNT, CRIMINAL INTENT, DOUBLE BLAST). Each woman gets caught in the searing heat and gripping action of the chase. They both learn that when you bend the rules too far, it’s time to… BREAKAWAY. Directed by Sean Dash.

Amazingly, this is the first time we’ve shown a movie featuring b-movie heavyweight Joe Estevez. Tonya and Joe seem like a good pairing!

    B-MOVIE BINGO: ANGEL OF FURY

    ANGEL OF FURY (1992)
Showing Tuesday 2/6/2018 at The Hollywood Theatre

Hell has no fury… like a security firm courier scorned! International martial arts star Cynthia Rothrock is Nancy Bolan, whose sole mission is to deliver a top-secret computer for a large security organization. Housed within a silver briefcase, the computer’s purpose is unknown. Enter “Bolt” (aka “Zartan”), who is referred to as “The Terrorist Who Strikes Like Lightning”.  He also happens to be a master of disguise and a beefcake. It turns out that he wants the computer too, and is hot on Nancy’s trail, intercepting her multiple ingenious, and yet failure-prone delivery attempts. The venerable Peter O’Brian, best known for his career-defining roles as The Stabilizer and Rambu, chews up the scenery as Bolt, in his sixth and final film role before returning to his previous life as an English teacher.

Rothrock is in top form as a tough, “I’m gonna kill you”, no-nonsense agent. Things to watch out for include: a post-computer delivery failure shopping spree, Rothrock’s insane, indescribable kick from a dirt bike through a van’s windshield (and then back again), bizarre editing and dialogue, guys who don’t know how to hold guns, and Peter O’Brian’s face. This movie is PURE BINGO!!!!

One thing that we like about this movie is that the screenplay was written by Chris Mitchum, son of Robert Mitchum!
